Miss Lucyfurr von Wagglestein (2001-2009)
Lucy was my best friend and traveling companion for many years. I got her as a puppy, the daughter of Nicodemus. After I met her I decided I was not responsible enough to have a dog, but a week later her dad’s owner kidnapped her from the guy who picked her out. He told me that guy would not be a good owner and that I needed to take her. She proved to be independent, intelligent, and loving to the extreme. We traveled all around the country together, slept under the stars, hiked in the woods and deserts. Saw the ocean. She was a philosopher and an astrophysicist. She loved her clan and brought so much joy to everyone in her life. Recently she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer on her spleen, and spread throughout her stomach. On 11/12/09 she was a happy dog. We went on a few good walks by the river that day, and laid together in the park like we always used to do. That night she became ill, her breathing grew labored. I took her to the ER and they told me her tumors had ruptured and she was bleeding internally. I made the decision to end her life and stop her suffering. She hated hospitals with a passion and keeping her alive would only have extended her misery, and that only briefly. I loved her more than almost anything in this world. I don’t know how I’m going to go on without her.
Lucy was:
Far too dignified to chase sticks
A protector of her little canine friends
My best friend
